Three Pines Studio
Announces Upcoming Exhibit, "BLING! BLING!"
Cross Village, MI. - Three Pines Studio will celebrate its upcoming exhibit, "BLING! BLING! The Jewelry of 2 Local Divas," with an opening reception on Saturday, July 5, from 2-7 p.m. This event is open to the public.
The two "Divas" in question are Alison DeCamp and Hanni Yothers. And while their jewelry creations are fabulous, you'll find nothing resembling diva attitude with these two. Though they share a mutual admiration for each other's work, this is the first time they have come together to exhibit their work jointly.
Each artist brings her own distinct style and array of
working materials. DeCamp will be presenting her glass jewelry: bracelets,
cuffs, necklaces and earrings, all from her own handmade glass beads. She is also excited to share, "Some
new techniques that I'll be debuting just for this show." Yothers will unveil silver pieces, acid
etched with words and line drawings.
She'll also showcase bracelets, necklaces and earrings that combine
Petoskey stones and beach glass.
Their processes are also
distinct. DeCamp finds her
inspiration in the process of doing.
When making beads she finds the more you do it, the more your creativity
flows. The end result is often
discovered as the process continues: "Often the beads themselves dictate
what I do with them. Some people
lay out all of their beads before stringing them, but I fly by the seat of my
pants." When it comes to
materials, DeCamp finds herself drawn to glass and silver. She admits she cannot pinpoint where
this fascination originates, "whether it's the shininess, or the depth of
the glass, or the infinite possibilities, I am just really mesmerized by
it."
Yothers finds inspiration in the
area landscape and by looking to her past. As a child and young adult she collected quotes on little
pieces of paper. As an adult she
found the book stuffed with all these quotes and decided to incorporate them
into her etching work. Yothers also looks to the area landscape, which supplies many of the materials she uses in her
jewelry. With Petoskey stones, she
appreciates the differences: "stones can be light, dark, hard, soft,
rounded, and/or beach worn."
Much of the beach glass she uses comes from her own collection, one she
accumulated growing up on the shores of Lake Huron. In addition to these found materials, Yothers also likes to
work with beads to introduce additional color into her work.
In addition to the BLING! BLING! opening, Three Pines Studio will also hold two related workshops. On Monday, July 7th from 1-3 p.m., Yothers with lead a "Design & Etch a Cuff Bracelet," demonstration. Yothers stresses that the bracelet will be a blank canvas to experiment on: participants can etch words, drawings, or geometric patterns and designs. Then on Tuesday, July 8th from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., DeCamp will lead a "Lampwork History & Demonstration," where she will show participants how to make lampwork beads.
The BLING! BLING! exhibit will remain on display at Three Pines Studio from July 5th through July 19th. The studio is open year-round with the following hours: May through October, open daily from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. (closed Wednesdays). November through April, from 11 a.m - 5 p.m., Friday through Monday.
