Thinking on Paper, a compelling exploration of humanity’s history of mark-making and the invention of paper.\nExhibition Dates: May 24 through June 17\nOpening Reception: May 24, 2:00-5:00 pm\nThis exhibition takes its inspiration from Roland Allen’s book Thinking on Paper, a compelling exploration of humanity’s history of mark-making and the invention of paper—an innovation that gave rise to journals, notebooks, and artist sketchbooks. Think of Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks: filled with scribbles, diagrams, and experimental thoughts, they offer a timeless window into the artist’s mind.\nThe Process\nContinuing in that spirit, Three Pines Studio invited a group of local artists to explore their own creative processes. Each artist received a Fabriano sketchbook—crafted by the legendary Italian papermaker, producing high-quality paper since 1247.\nInside those pages, artists documented their thoughts, ideas, and early visuals. From those explorations, each created a final piece of artwork for this exhibition.\nWhat You’ll See\nOn display are the original sketchbooks alongside the completed artworks they inspired. These pairings offer a rare and intimate look at how ideas evolve—from the first marks on paper to the finished creation.\nAs a special offering, each sketchbook will be gifted to the buyer of its corresponding artwork—an opportunity to own not just a piece of art, but a piece of the artist’s journey.\n
